Flag Raisings in Durham Region to Commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Violence against women isn’t just unacceptable. It’s a violation of human rights.

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

As a region, we stand firmly against all forms of violence, including those rooted in gender. Every person has the right to live safely, with dignity and respect.

The Wrapped in Courage flag will be raised in municipalities across Durham Region as a visible reminder to speak out, stand together and work toward a future where everyone can live free from violence.

Municipality of Clarington – 1:00 PM - Tuesday, November 24 - Municipal Administrative Centre at 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville

City of Oshawa – 8:30 AM - Wednesday, November 25 - Oshawa City Hall at 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa

Town of Whitby – 9:00 AM - Wednesday, November 25 -Whitby Town Hall at 575 Rossland Road East, Whitby

November 25 Marks the Beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

Our Theme this year is Village in Action: Ending Gender Based Violence

We are calling on men to step up and help the fight.

Join with Mayor Adrian Foster and other members of the Clarington Council for a ceremony to proclaim November 25, 2021, The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Help support survivors of gender-based violence as we raise a Wrapped In Courage flag to signal our commitment to end Violence Against Women and Girls and to ensure they know they’re not alone.

The flag raising and proclamation will take place at 40 Temperance St. Bowmanville at 11:30 am

Don’t forget to wear purple!!
